Finding Best Mouse for my Kid

Being a father of a child (of 7 years age) who is attending online classes, I was always not in favour of concept of attending classes on mobile phone, as it could seriously impact the eye sight of kids. Also it makes kid more habitual of using mobile phone. So, I bought a laptop for my daughter to attend the online classes and got stuck with another problem, as navigation through laptop touchpad is a problem for kids and she frequently started calling us for help. So I decided to purchase a new mouse which can help my kid on navigating the things on her laptop easily.

Before I can move on searching of suitable mouse for my kid I remembered those days when I used my first mouse way back in 2002. We were blessed with mechanical mouse (with rolling ball in it). Those were the mouse which you have to roll miles to reach your targeted file or folders. Those were the mouse which could make you cry if you don’t service or clean their roller balls frequently with wet cloth. Kids might be thinking mouse with roller balls and servicing them. For them I am attaching pic of it and they can sympathise with our generation of mouse users. After passing out my graduation I never used mouse again, as we were using laptops for personal and official work.

While exploring online on Amazon for a suitable mouse for my kid, I came across a product which looked futuristic, stylish, jazzy and sturdy with glowing mechanism to me. I decided to look at the features of this mouse and found that product is having

5.  Mouse can work on 4 different DPI. User can select DPI from 1000/1600/2400/3200 DPI. For your clarification DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. Higher the DPI, higher will be mouse sensitivity. So for my kid I have selected lowest DPI.
6.  It doesn’t require mouse pad, only flat surface is required
7.  For gaming enthusiast dedicated forward and backward button comes as a blessing. It helps in easy and convenient toggle.
8.  Also the power consumption is hardly DC 5v, 100mA.

Prima facie product looks perfect for my daughter’s usage, but before buying I decided to explore further and compare the same with other existing products on Amazon. I decided to compare the 4 top selling mouse on 5 parameters. They are price, ergonomics, product weight, DPI and customer review. Each parameter will be weighed equal and based on cumulative rating top most ranking mouse will be selected for my kid

Some wise man said once that “If we want to know the best possible option among the best looking options, than we have to compare them judiciously with each other”. I did the same and my initial gut feeling about the product was right.

I have learned from my professional experience that, before designing or finalising the product a formal consent from customer is required to be taken. So I went and asked user (My daughter). After seeing the pics of the product online, she got excited and told that she will be showing the same to her classmates after receiving the product.

I ordered the mouse and it took 3 days to get delivered to our home. Until mouse got delivered at our house, my daughter kept following me about the status of our order. Whether the product was packed or not, shipped or not, reached our city or not, when it will be delivered. I was amazed to see her excitement about her new prized mouse.

Finally the D-day came and mouse got delivered to us in a wonderful packaging. Amazon ensured to deliver the same way before mentioned delivery day. My daughter took the charge of opening the package. Before that she ensured to open her laptop, so that product can be used and its performance can be checked. Below is her pic. Excitement and happiness in her eyes were priceless for me.
